Nordic Biochar Network

learn, produce and use

About the network

Biochar, the solid product of biomass pyrolysis, has been produced and utilized for many thousand years. It is one of the most versatile solid fuels with a vast number of applications. In the last years, biochar has gained increasing popularity as a replacement for fossil carbon carriers, in an attempt to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

A number of different research areas have evolved around biochar, ranging from archeaology and medicine to agriculture and metallurgy. While some are more interested in the fundamentals of biomass pyrolysis, others may focus on the effect of biochar in different applications.

While the motivation might be different, knowledge around biochar is gathered in all of these communities. This network shall provide a platform to meet, exchange and find partners.

It is currently in the planning phase, with a formal founding meeting planned in the end of the year.
